Law of Attraction  often speaks to us in code.  Luckily we each possess a handy  inner decoder: our spiritual perspective always gets the true message.

Whenever we interpret life events through our ordinary five-sense perspective alone, we can easily miss the message from spirit. That’s because what our everyday, ego-based mind does best is: pass judgement.

Over-reliance on  everyday mind and our 5 senses makes it  easy to interpret setbacks, delays, and the other frustrations of owning a business as “signs from the universe” that we are on the wrong path. Or signs that there is something wrong with us! Continue Reading »

Dan Ariely, a psychology and behavioral economics professor at Duke University, writes about why we often make irrational decisions.  Because a lot of what we small business entrepreneurs do in marketing is intended to influence buying behaviors, Ariely’s book Predictably Irrational is worth reading. It’s also unexpectedly  entertaining.

Listening to spiritual entrepreneur and author  Mike Dooley speak at the International Association of Conscious and Creative Writers symposium yesterday, I felt a rush of  appreciation for just how darn practical he is – particularly about  small business success.

Mike understands the necessity to take action.

My biggest disagreement with  much Law of Attraction material is the idea that you can “just” think or feel or visualize – and you will receive everything your heart desires.

Not too likely…

Yes, using your mind is important. Yes, being still and knowing is also important. But unless you bring in action, it’s difficult to move forward.

And action – as Mike Dooley is so helpful at reminding us – is  “often demoralizing at the start.”

Only I would edit “often” to “nearly always.”

As  a Law of Attraction coach I’m often asked why new ventures that feel exciting and hopeful at the outset often run into roadblocks.

A better question might be:  what’s the big deal about a roadblock?

It’s a spiritual fantasy to think that we can create a magnificent life without encountering any challenges or fears. In his  latest Law of Attraction book,  Manifesting Change, Mike Dooley writes: “If your life did not have challenges it would not be worth living…there would be no adventure.”

Abraham-Hicks’s first two Law of Attraction books were called A New Beginning (part 1 and part 2). Published in the late 1980s, the central point of these books was this: in any moment we can claim a new beginning.

If there’s an area of your life or work in which you could use a new beginning, it’s available to you always through your divine inheritance as a creator. All you have to do is choose it. “I now choose a new beginning for myself on the subject of _________.”

Done!

Keep this in mind: after you make this choice, expect the Law of Attraction to immediately send you more of the same old stuff you want to change.
