Prediction: The term “attraction marketing,” novel as it sounds today, will evolve into mainstream marketing over the next 10 years. Then we’ll refer to it as “marketing.”

Currently the essential difference between attraction marketing and mainstream marketing is this: attraction marketing isn’t about what you do. It’s about who you are – eternal, abundant and richly successful.

I call the traditional style of marketing (what most of us grew up with) old power marketing. Its essence is doing – or, more precisely, manipulating.

If you’ve ever watched a “Mad Men” episode, you’ve seen old power marketing in action.

The question asked in old power marketing is: how do we dominate this market, drive the consumer to buy, and decimate the competition? It’s all about victory through force: do more, spend more, conquer.
