Your 21-Day Freedom Plan – Part 1
Article from Successful Self Employment News, subscribe
This freedom plan is for you if you’re thinking so much that you find yourself unable to take purposeful action.
I wrote about “the over-thinking it trap” in the last SSE News (reprinted on my blog at www.andreaconway.com ).
You met Don, my Inner Circle member who couldn’t break out of analyzing and re-analyzing his new business long enough to actually start it.
What kept Don over-thinking his options was a desire to be certain before taking action.
Underneath that desire? I’d call it a fear of making the “wrong decision.” Most of us have this fear, because most of us can point to a past decision we came to label “wrong.”
Today that fear of being wrong may still imprison us.
No worries – the path of self-employment was designed to set us free!
If you’re ready to release your fear so you can take definite, successful next steps to create or expand your business, here’s Your 21-Day Freedom Plan. This week: Part 1 – From Fear to Possibility.
Part 1 – Day 1-7: From fear to possibility
Next time you notice your mind going in circles about the same old problem or decision, stop and ask: what is it I’m trying to avoid?
Then stop and listen for the answer. You may have to wait through some uncomfortable minutes of silence. That’s OK. Expect an answer. When we ask it is given: insist on receiving your answer.
Don found he wanted to avoid uncertainty by waiting for the “sure thing.”
Or, when I spoke with Barb earlier this week, she realized she wanted to avoid repeating her history of overworking to the point of contracting an illness.
What we’re trying to avoid may seem logical. But avoidance is actually fear in disguise.
Guy Finley says: “No fearful sense of limitation or inadequacy belongs to our True Self.
In other words: fear is NOT who we really are.
If we weren’t larger than our fears, we could become permanently lost in them.
Fortunately that’s not possible. How can we know that?
No matter how big your fear seems, you always have the power to observe it.
In order to observe something, we have to step outside of it.
Because we can always observe our fear, we know that fear can’t really engulf us (though it can feel that way at times.)
By observing fear, we begin to separate from it. Separation from it allows us to receive new thoughts from our True Self, soul, inner being, spirit or whatever term you like to use for the part of you that is eternally fearless, eternally free, eternally peaceful.
New thoughts open up new possibilities that eclipse fear.
This week’s plan:
1 – Notice when your mind goes in endless circles or where you may feel stuck in your business (or life)
2 – Ask what you are avoiding and listen for the answer
3 – Know that whatever concern or fear emerges, you are larger and more powerful than it
4 – Observe your fear. What thoughts is it made of? How does it feel to you? Does it remind you of anything in your past? (Avoid the temptation to “fix” the fear. What you work to fix you affix yourself to. Your work is to observe, not to fix.)
5 – Whenever the fear returns, or a new one arises, observe it. Remind yourself you are larger and more powerful than any fear, because you can observe it.
6 – Spend 10 minutes a day writing the answer to this question: “How can I release this fear and move forward?” Start to write, don’t censor, and keep writing for 10 minutes.
7 – When you finish your 10 minutes, ask yourself what has changed for you.
